Trockenbeerenauslese

Origin: Trockenbeerenauslese (TBA) is a highly prestigious category of sweet white wine from Germany and Austria. The name means "dry berry selection," referring to the meticulous harvesting of individually shriveled, noble rot-affected grapes.

Production: TBA wines are made from grapes that have been affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), concentrating their sugars and flavors. The grapes are hand-selected and pressed, resulting in a highly concentrated juice that is slowly fermented to retain its intense sweetness and vibrant acidity.

Taste: Trockenbeerenauslese wines are known for their luscious sweetness and exceptional complexity. Common tasting notes include apricot, peach, honey, and tropical fruits, with hints of caramel, spice, and floral aromas. The wines often have a rich, syrupy texture and a long, luxurious finish.

Pairings: TBA wines pair wonderfully with rich desserts such as fruit tarts, crème brûlée, and cheesecake. They also complement strong cheeses like blue cheese and Roquefort, as well as foie gras and pâté.

Similar Wines: If you enjoy Trockenbeerenauslese, you might also like Beerenauslese, Sauternes, and Tokaji, which offer similarly sweet and concentrated profiles with a balance of acidity and richness.
